Classic steak-and-seafood restaurant The Monocle and lively Irish pub The Dubliners have been favored hangouts of D.C. politicos for decades. Barracks Row has some of the most buzzworthy dining options, such as Michelin-starred New American-style restaurants Rose’s Luxury and Pineapple & Pearls. Eastern Market businesses include a baker, butcher, fishmonger, florist, and grocer. It also hosts a weekly farmers’ market and a hugely popular flea market, plus talented local artisans.

 

A few blocks beyond Capitol Hill’s boundaries, more than 100 shops and restaurants line the streets surrounding Union Station. Capitol Hill is one of the most visited locations by tourists in the United States. People arrive here from all over the world to see Congress or the Supreme Court in session. The grounds surrounding the Capitol Building are another huge draw, with locals and visitors alike gathering around the Bartholdi Fountain to take in the sights or relax on the lawn in the summer months.

 

The Library of Congress is the largest in the world, and its magnificent Gilded Age architecture is a must-see. Another literary landmark is the Folger Shakespeare Library, where performances are staged within a faithful recreation of the type of tiered Elizabethan Inn Yards they would originally have been staged at. Other major attractions are the Friday night parades at the U.S. Marine Barracks and the U.S. Botanic Gardens. In addition to its world-famous landmarks, Capitol Hill contains more than 50 neighborhood parks. Local gyms include Balance, Atlas Fitness, and Sports and Health. Capitol Hill is zoned to the District of Columbia Public School District.
